Books

Renovation of the Heart – Dallas Willard

Don’t settle for complacency. Accept the challenge Renovation of the Heart offers to become an intentional apprentice of Jesus Christ, changing daily as you walk with Him.

The Journey of Desire – John Eldredge

In his groundbreaking book, The Journey of Desire, John Eldredge invites readers to:

Rediscover their God-given desire., abandon resignation and search again for the life they once dreamed of.

Sometimes it seems we just can’t get what we want. Circumstances thwart our best-laid plans. We struggle to live a heartfelt life. Worst of all, says Eldredge, the modern church mistakenly teaches its people to kill desire (calling it sin) and replace it with duty or obligation (calling it sanctification). As a result, at best Christians tend to live safe, boring lives of resignation. At worst, their desire eventually breaks out in destructive ways such as substance abuse, affairs, and pornography addictions.

Ruthless Trust – Brennan Manning

In his sequel to The Ragamuffin Gospel bestselling author Brennan Manning shows how true and radical trust in God can transform our lives. Manning, beloved author and spiritual teacher, shows us how trust in God can transform our lives and open us up to deeper experiences of grace and love. In Ruthless Trust, he turns his focus from furious love to radical trust, revealing the ways in which trust renews our faith and help us grow.

Daring Greatly – Brene’ Brown

Daring Greatly is not about winning or losing. It’s about courage. In a world where “never enough” dominates and feeling afraid has become second nature, vulnerability is subversive. Daring Greatly is a practice and a powerful new vision for letting ourselves be seen.

Articles

Dallas Willard (September 4, 1935 – May 8, 2013) encouraged us to use our own lives to demonstrate Jesus’s message. We must be transformed people living out a life reflective of Jesus himself, a life of love, humility, and gentleness. He leaves behind a legacy as friend, philosopher and reformer of the church.

These are the notes for a talk presented in September 2008 as part of the Talbot School of Theology’s Institute for Spiritual Formation Lecture Series.

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35

What we need to see here is that the essence of faith is being satisfied with all that God is for us in Christ.
